Faculty of Arts Wins AFUED Convocation Debate Competition

The Faculty of Arts, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, has emerged winner of the 2025 inter-faculty debate competition, organized by the university’s National Alumni Association.

Held on Monday, May 19, 2025, the debate was part of activities marking the 61st foundation day and 35th convocation ceremony of the institution. Participants were drawn from five faculties:

  • Faculty of Arts

  • Faculty of Science

  • Faculty of Education

  • Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education

  • Faculty of Management and Social Sciences

🗣️ Education is the Benchmark of Every Nation

During the event, Dr. Festus Olowogboyega Oyebade, National President of the AFUED Alumni Association, emphasized the vital role of education in national development. He remarked:

“Education is the benchmark of every country or nation… without quality education, no nation can attain stability or compete globally.”

He called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to improve access and funding at all educational levels, adding that:

“Some families may not afford higher education, but even basic education can shape lives meaningfully.”

🏆 Winners and Highlights

The debate theme was:
“Changing Dynamics in Education in Adeyemi Federal University of Education: Trends and Implications”

Participants from each faculty spoke on current trends, challenges, and prospects within the university’s evolving academic landscape.

  • 🥇 1st Place – Faculty of Arts:
    Yusuf Ayomide and Oseni Faith

  • 🥈 2nd Place – Faculty of Science:
    Tolulope Oyebanjo and Fadayomi Samuel

  • 🥉 3rd Place – Faculty of Education:
    Adewole Oluwaseyi and Ogunmola Grace Toyin

The Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education and the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences took the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

🎁 Prize Presentation

The climax of the event was the presentation of prizes to all participants. Dignitaries who awarded the prizes included:

  • Aniefok Gideon – AFUED Student Union President

  • Dr. Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega – National President, AFUED Alumni Association

The debate took place at the New Centre for Educational Technology and was graced by notable personalities such as:

  • Hon. Oluwatuyi Omoloye – National PRO

  • Princess E. P. Akinrinmade – National Financial Secretary

  • Dr. Charles Omotayo – Acting National Secretary

  • Dr. Adeniranye Charles – Chairman, Alumni Sub-Committee for 35th Convocation

The event showcased AFUED’s commitment to academic excellence, critical thinking, and youth empowerment through intellectual engagement.
